McKel Lee Baker

I started the education program at The College of Idaho in 2007. I had originally decided to follow the pathway to teach physical education or third thru sixth grade. I completed all course work except my fifth year “internship”. I graduated in May 2011 with my bachelors in physical education with minors in education studies and coaching. During my final months at The College of Idaho I was accepted into the Masters of Health Science  program at Boise State University. I started classes during the summer of 2011.  While attending BSU I was fortunate enough to start coaching girls basketball at Kuna High school. I have been the varisty assistant for 4 years now. I was a subsititue teacher in the Kuna Schoool District from 2011-2013. Last year while substiting I was asked to fill a long term substitute position as a behavior interventionist/psychosocial rehabilitation specialist. After substituting for two months, I applied for the position and accepted the job. I completed the year at Kuna Middle School as a Behavior interventionist. During this time I was able to sit in several math classes at KMS. By the end of the year I had realize i needed to complete my internship and get my teaching certification. I applied for a physical education position and math position at KHS. One week before school started I accepted the math position at KHS. I am currently teaching four sections of Algebra 1 and two sections of Integrated Algebra 1, while completing my internship course work.  I have been very grateful to have a very helpful and supportive math team here at KHS. They are all willing to give me ideas and pick me up when I’m down. My first year of teaching and internship combined would not have gone so well so far without this fantastic group working around me.
